My Philosophy of Teaching
By: Traci Neil Prater
I feel that everyone has experiences throughout
their lives that effect the beliefs they hold.
My philosophy of teaching comes from my experiences in my high school
business classes. I was also blessed
with wonderful teachers that helped mold my philosophy. My philosophy was also developed from my
work experiences and the opportunities I was granted in dealing with the
public. What I expect from my
student’s, is what was expected of me.
·
Effective teaching is understanding that students
need more than lectures and the passing of knowledge--they also need
interactive learning.
·
Teaching is knowing your students' desires and
aspirations in order to help achieve them.
·
Teaching should consist of constant interaction
with the outside world.
·
Teaching should be a constant interaction between
teachers and students to make sure students feel as though they are a major
part of the learning process.
·
Teaching is a never-ending cycle for the teacher
and a teacher should always be willing to do whatever it takes to be the best
he/she can be for their students.
·
Teaching should never include narrow mindedness or
prejudices. Everyone is equal in his or
her own unique way and will always have something to offer the world.
·
Teachers must realize that not all students will
have the same passion for the subject matter being taught; but with effective
teaching, there will be some form of interest sparked in each student.
·
Teaching is allowing each student to know and use
his/her own voice and to always have the right to be heard and respected.
·
Teaching is preparing students for the real world
by teaching confidence, effective communication skills, thinking and listening
skills along with the knowledge of technology that will help them be effective
in any setting.
·
Teaching is being able to work with other teachers
and administrators to give one’s students the best education possible.
·
Teaching is not only knowledge being passed from
one person to another but is reflected in the appearance and the demeanor of a
person. My great grandmother always
said "Actions speak louder than words," and I believe that that
statement definitely holds true in teaching.
