ONE LORD: ONE CALLING: ONE BODY
Tune: "How Firm A Foundation," p. 268

Joe R. Terrell, 1989

Lord, You have a people throughout the whole earth,
From each kindred, and tribe; tongue and nation of birth;
Though fleshly distinctions in life do them part,
By the blood of Your Son they are made of one heart.

The one who's oppressed under tyranny's arm,
And the one who enjoys freedom's safety from harm;
In Christ are united, together they're free,
For both by the Son have been made free indeed.

The weak and the foolish, the outcasts of earth,
Are one with the few called out from noble birth;
The poor with the rich in equality stand,
For they all are held safely in Jesus's hand.

The skin that is black and the skin that is white,
Are made brothers in Jesus, In Him they unite;
The Jew and the Gentile; the bond and the free,
Though different in culture, are made one in Thee.

The man you have made, and the woman from him,
Though made different in role, are united within;
As both in the garden your image did bear,
They both, in Christ Jesus, His likeness shall wear.

Lord, we stand in amazement of Your Sovereign Grace.
That has made us of one blood, has made us one race;
Though hatred is nat'ral in all human breath,
By the blood of Your Son, You've put hatred to death!

"I wrote this hymn as I mowed our grass one day. We were expecting a visitor from one of our sister churches (Grace Baptist of Danville, Ky. Where Bro. Don Fortner preaches) and I was impressed in heart with the fact that God, indeed, has a people spread all over the earth." – Joe Terrell
