BUT GOD
(2 Samuel 14:14; Ephesians 2:1-8)

Joe R. Terrell

In trespasses my soul was dead, "But God;"
I did in Satan's pathway tread, "But God;"
My sins were piled upon my head, To condemnation I was led,
Until I heard the gospel said, "But God!"

My sins did increasingly abound, "But God,"
In cords of death my soul was wound, "But God,"
Like water poured upon the ground, My soul would never have been found,
Had not there been that blessed sound, "But God."

My soul shall never cling to man, but God,
My tongue shall never sing of man, but God;
My soul in glory soon shall stand, Before the one and only Man,
Who isn't only perfect Man, but GOD!

"This was (I believe) the first song for which I wrote both words and music. I have no midi file of the music, so I have no way of sending it to you presently. However, it is the words that glorify God revolving around the oft-used Scriptural phrase, "But God."– Joe Terrell
